Julie Moffitt Ballet School presents "Sleeping Beauty & The Quiltmaker's Gift"

Tickets go on sale Monday, March 19th.

Julie Moffitt Ballet School has always produced quality art and this spring "The Sleeping Beauty and "The Quiltmaker's Gift" is no exception. The production will be May 4th and 5th at 6:30 pm at Peery Egyptian Theater. Monday, May 7th, "The Sleeping Beauty" will be performed again along with excerpts of "The Quiltmaker's Gift" and Graduating Soloist dancers.

All performances will include the charming fairy tale of Tchaikovsky's Sleeping Beauty, a near-perfect classic, a captivating fantasy story filled with magic and poetry.  The JMBS shorter adaptation under the direction of Julie Moffitt, begins with the celebration of Princess Aurora's Christening. When the King forgets to invite the evil fairy, Carabosse, she shows up anyway and puts a curse on Aurora. But the good Lilac Fairy comes to the rescue, and mollifys the curse to 100 years of sleep. On Aurora's 16th birthday she accidentally pricks her finger and the curse begins. A short century later, the Lilac Fairy leads the dashing Prince Desire to the old castle where Aurora slumbers. He kisses her, breaking the spell.  A grand wedding scene is performed and everyone dances and celebrates the union of the happy couple.

The  choreography is after Marius Petipa and staging and additional choreography by Julie Moffitt, Aimee Davis, Alyssa Klein, Savanah Miller, Alicia Smeding, Dannielle Chapple and Sarah Richardson. If you love a classical ballet complete with a  fairy tale theme, tiaras, tutus, variations and lavish scenery, then you won't want to miss the JMBS "The Sleeping Beauty". It's a ballet favorite, performed all over the world!

The Quiltmaker's Gift is a delightful touching and beautiful story about a King who finds happiness by heeding the words of a legendary Quiltmaker.  The story by Jeff Brumbeau and Gail de Marcken comes to life as  beautiful JMBS dancers ages 4-adult step onto stage to tell the story in music and dance.  The narrative story is included with Andrea Cunningham as the Quiltmaker and Justin Roylance as the King.
Colorful costumes and lighting add dimension and delight to dances such as Fluttering sparrows, Waltzing blue Siamese Cats, and a Lyrical dance about the homeless and downhearted.  And, like the King, dancers find joy in giving a marvelous gift of dance to the community.

Join us for a memorable evening of enjoyable dance and music you won't soon forget!
